It’s a compliment to be called a “fashionista.” However, do you really know what a “fashionista’ is? Well, the word “fashionsita” has come a long way since it was coined in 1993.
According to elle.com;
In 1993 Stephen Fried was a young journalist writing a book about the short and turbulent life of one of the world’s first supermodels, Gia Carangi, who died at 26 after contracting AIDS from a heroin syringe. Fried was thrown into the culture of beauty and clothes—sitting beside Donatella Versace at her mansion in Milan while waiting to take a meeting with Paul Beck—and interviewing the greatest figures in fashion during the 1980s. He needed a word to call the people he met and decided to refer to the sartorial individuals as “fashionistas.” And the slang term was born.
Since then the word “fashionista” has taken multiple meanings. Either it’s someone who is a staunch follower of fashion or someone who shapes the fashion world; it really depends on how you look at it.
Whatever the meaning is, not everybody can be considered a fashionista. Go to the next page to see the 10 compelling signs of a certified fashionista.
