When starting your skincare journey, it’s very difficult to find a skincare product that works for you. You have to go through trial and error, and maybe end up wasting money and time on a product that makes your skin worse than before. What if I told you that there’s a product that can help moisturize your skin without breaking out?
I recently received the Slam Dunk Hydrating Moisturizer from Bubble Skincare to test out and review. This was part of their dry skin trio, so I do have more Bubble products that I will be talking about in the future. I used the moisturizer for both day and nighttime routines for a month in order to give you some thorough feedback.
What Makes Their Hydrating Moisturizer So Special?
The Slam Dunk Hydrating Moisturizer from Bubble Skincare retails for $16.00 USD on Ulta or on their website. It is an everyday moisturizer for dry to normal skin types.
Bubble’s moisturizer is setting up your skin for success. Not only is the moisturizer vegan and cruelty-free, it is designed to be suitable for normal to dry skin because of its amazing skincare superstars, including:
- Aloe Leaf Juice: Aloe contains an antioxidant that protects, soothes, and moisturizes the skin. It is a trustworthy solution to healing wounds, sunburns, and blemishes. Aloe also is known to help seal in moisture, making it a great skincare essential for oily skin and dry skin.
- Vitamin E: This ingredient is a potent antioxidant that helps fights off the inflammation and damage that can come from UV rays and other environmental stressors so that your skin can heal faster.
- Avocado Oil: Besides being another great source of vitamin E, avocados are also used for treating wounds and blemishes. It has properties that allow it to help inflammation and redness, common symptoms of dry and flaky skin.
- Hoya Lacunosa Flower Oil: The plant can help soothe skin and promote a more radiant, glowing complexion since it has antioxidant properties. It also can be used to provide moisture to the skin so that it is more supple and smooth.
- Superfood Proteins: Superfoods help with boosting your health, and that includes your skin’s health, too. They help firm up your skin by promoting collagen production and boosting hydration so that your skin is protected against blue light damage.
An interesting part of this formula is that it is supposed to protect your skin from blue light. I also noticed this with another skincare product I had tried and was confused if this was a trend or a marketing ploy. However, blue light seems to have some interesting effects on your health that you didn’t realize.
Why Should I Care About Blue Light Exposure?
Blue light is usually associated with sunlight exposure, but it also can come from our screens. Computers, phones, TV’s, and so on. We are pretty much reliant on technology for day-to-day tasks, so we may need SPF more often than we initially thought.
There have been some studies that report blue light can help with some skin conditions. These benefits are more associated with a short period of exposure to powerful wavelengths of light. The positive findings are also correlated to sources of blue light that aren’t artificial.
Recent findings have shown that prolonged exposure to blue light from artificial sources like tech can actually worsen our skin by speeding up the aging process. This means that you would be more susceptible to fine lines and wrinkles due to the production of free radicals in blue light. Free radicals are defined as unstable oxygen molecules that can mess with cellular structures. These structures include your DNA, lipids, and proteins, which are essential for your skin to remain firm and protected from outside factors.
If you’re dealing with hyperpigmentation, blue light may also be the cause or exacerbator. Since the blue light is weakening your skin barrier, this means your skin is lacking the support aka the cellular structures needed to help your skin heal faster. The next time you turn on your phone or laptop, consider putting your devices on dark mode to lessen the blue light. You can always take action by starting with skin-boosting skincare like this moisturizer.
It Was a Slam Dunk
Stand-Out Packaging
Packaging is so cute and is super sturdy plastic! Love the flower applicator for a clean application. Typically, I’m not a huge fan of the pump packaging style because I like knowing when I run out of product to restock. I can look past that with this one because squeezing out the product is very easy compared to other pump package products I have used in the past.
Easy to Use
I used the moisturizer for my day and nighttime routines. In my opinion, 1-2 pumps of product were enough to cover my face and neck immediately after using toners and serums. During the wintertime, I’m more careful with making sure my creams aren’t too thick for breakout prevention. Using the moisturizer on wet skin was no issue and my skin looked and felt great.
If spreadability is your concern for skin care, you will like this one. I have a medium skin tone and I did not have any white cast. It took me less than 20 seconds probably to make sure the product was absorbed into my skin.
Sensitive-Skin Friendly
Using the moisturizer was a dream. The cream is very lightweight and has no scent, making it friendly for sensitive skin types. There are no essential oils in this formula that can cause concern for unexpected breakouts. When my skin was in its dry and flaky period, I am sure that my skin and I would have thoroughly enjoyed using this product if it hit the market in 2019.
My Skin Did Improve
On top of my skin not breaking out while using this formula, I do think that my skin definitely improved. The moisturizer left my skin with a natural finish so it won’t clog your pores. Sometimes, I would forget that I had moisturizer on because it didn’t have that heavy, oily residue that can be an issue. It just felt like my skin, but a million times better.
Since my skin felt great using the product, I can say that I did see an improvement in terms of blemishes and breakouts. My skin did not turn red or have an increase of breakouts (or “purge”) during use. My blemishes did look lighter since the moisturizer has a great ingredient list to protect my skin.
What’s Not to Like with This Moisturizer?
Literally, nothing to dislike about the Slam Dunk Moisturizer. Going back to my previous point, I think the only issue is the pump packaging for some people. I personally like knowing how much product is in the package, but some people might prefer this because it is hygienic or aesthetic. The formula is great and worth a try.
Would I repurchase?
Usually I’m not a fan of not being able to see the product to see when I run out, but I actually love the packaging. It’s a cute way to keep your product clean and ready to keep your skin clear and nourished. I was pleasantly surprised with how good my skin was looking after consistent use. This is a great product for beginners to skincare or even for the skincare obsessed (like me haha).
I wish I can tell you that I finished the product in this review, but my mom took it from me because she wanted to try it for herself. It’s her favorite skincare product for the same reasons that I have, so I think the moisturizer is also a great choice for mature skin.
